I’m senior software engineer coming up on my 6-year career anniversary this August. For the past three years I’ve been working as an Investment Systems Engineer for Bungie on our new live-service extraction shooter, Marathon, where I’ve noticeably grown in terms of code construction, architecture, and pragmatism. Before Bungie, I was a Combat AI Programmer working on Grand Theft Auto VI at Rockstar New England, which hired me as a fresh Computer Science and Engineering grad from Dartmouth College in 2020.
Working in the games industry had been a dream of mine for almost a decade, though I think it might be time for me to try something new. If you want to learn more about my skills and professional background, check out my resume!
Some fun facts about me, in no particular order
- I picked up running in early 2024, which eventually led to 5ks, then half marathons, and eventually full marathons (2 so far!). I’ve found it to be a great outlet for regulating my mental health, in addition to providing ample time to listen to audiobooks (mostly sci-fi, especially “The Expanse” series).
- I love to sing, both choral and a cappella. I’ve been in a post-collegiate a cappella group, Collective Measures, for four years now, with which I sing bass. Prior to Covid and moving out to Boston, I was a member of the Glee Club and the music director of the Brovertones a cappella group in college.
- I would say I’m an “untrained amateur” linguist, which is to say I love to learn and discuss languages and etymology. After studying abroad twice in undergrad for my Hispanic Studies Minor, I picked up Portuguese from Duolingo. I’m currently eyeing Mandarin for what’s next.
- I love frogs and frog-related art.
- I’m fascinated with polyhedra, especially those related to φ, the golden ratio.
- I’m a big fan of twisty puzzles (the family of puzzles to which the Rubik’s Cube belongs).
- My full degree title is “Bachelor of the Arts with a Computer Science modified with Engineering Sciences Major and a Hispanic Studies Minor”.
Some of my favorite video games, in order of what I’ve played most recently
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Minecraft
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- Halo: Reach
- Fallout 4
- Saints Row 2
A brief history of “ClydeHobart”
Around 2010, a friend and I were theorizing about a hypothetical situation where Justin Bieber had changed his name to “Justin Bieber” to aid his rise to stardom, and we were brainstorming some potential birth names, and “Clyde Hobart” was suggested. I latched on to the name, not for any particular affinity to Justin Bieber, but just since tweens are always looking for a “cool” new pseudonym/alias/username in this digital age that we live in. Thus, ClydeHobart was born. Aside from being my GitHub username (hence “clydehobart.dev”), it’s also my username for a grand plethora of sites/apps/games.
